Nantucket, The Franklin 925 Featured In powerboat Magazine’s “learning To Launch” Column, Is For Sale!

Nantucket is a superb example of the highly regarded Franklin 925, designed by Bruce Askew and built by Franklin Boats of Christchurch. Well known for building hi-tech racing yachts, Ian Franklin specified a light, stiff, composite hull for the Franklin 925 launch. Its attractive retro-styling consistently attract compliments. Quality craftsmanship is on show in the tongue and groove saloon ceiling, light timber cabinetry and exterior stainless work.

The Franklin 925’s sea-kindly hull provides comfortable, low-cost coastal cruising. It planes at 12 knots with a top speed of 22 knots. The large, four-bladed propeller and bow thruster ensure easy manoeuvrability in close quarters. Nantucket is easily managed by one or two people.

The current owner has overseen professional replacement of the stove’s gas installation, sanitation hoses, house and main batteries, a new exhaust system and the universals.

With four berths and generous stowage, Nantucket suits cruising for one, two, a young family or retirees with grandchildren. The galley features generous stowage; two-burner stove, grill and oven; hot and cold water. Large windows fill the saloon with natural light; the enclosed cockpit enhances safety while underway or fishing. Access to toilet/shower compartment is off the cockpit. A bimini provides all-weather shelter over the cockpit. The swimboard is perfect for watersports.

The helm seat presides over a dash featuring BEP switchboard, Lowrance chartplotter, and switches for searchlight, battery and tank monitors, hot water cylinder, and remote windlass. Comprehensive owner’s manuals cover the boat’s systems. The four-cylinder, 240hp Yanmar with turbo is economical to run and easily accessible beneath the cockpit, with vee-drive under the galley sole.

Nantucket is on a rented berth in Waikawa, Marlborough Sounds. The asking price represents great value for a well-maintained vessel.
