After 20 years in Australia and 20 years in Canada Jutson Marine Design has now relocated to New Zealand. As much a family move (his son is a boat builder here) as a business move, Jutson brings an unrivalled depth of experience spanning from 18ft skiffs to maxi yachts to large cruising cats and foil-assist chase boats.
For the last 15 years, JMD has specialised in foiling-assist catamarans for both commercial and recreational use. This style of craft has gained popularity for its incredible ride quality and fuel efficiency, while offering the stability and function of a catamaran platform. Jutson foil cat designs are now built around the world in the Netherlands, Canada, Poland, Turkey, China, USA and Australia.
Jutson designs with a reductionist philosophy: less is better. His evolution in the foil assist world has been to analyse every option for what it provides and eliminate many traditional bits that add cost and weight to the build for no real performance benefit. He has also improved foil efficiency to the point where heavier vessels can now benefit from this technology.
