Vortex Marine Launches Scout Portable Navigator

Vortex Marine has launched Scout, a portable marine navigator that combines satellite imagery, electronic navigational charts, weather, and live vessel information on one versatile 10.1-inch display.

Scout’s standout feature is a slider that blends electronic charts with satellite imagery, allowing boaters to switch between chart contours and overhead views of reefs, anchorages and waterways. Imagery from multiple providers offers additional detail, particularly in shallow or poorly surveyed waters. Designed for demanding marine environments, Scout features a sunlight-readable 1,000-nit touchscreen that operates with wet fingers or gloves, alongside physical control buttons. It incorporates built-in satellite positioning, a 14,600 mAh battery, IP65 dust and water resistance, and MIL-STD-810G drop testing.

Powered by Vortex’s PolarisOS, Scout provides core navigation without a subscription. Optional Polaris+ plans unlock higher-resolution satellite imagery, advanced weather information, AIS functionality and additional navigation tools. Charts, satellite imagery and weather data can also be downloaded for offline use. Anchoring features include forecast wind and swell comparisons, swing-circle monitoring, depth and tidal information, and drag alerts. Through a compatible Wi-Fi gateway, Scout can display NMEA 2000 data, including depth, wind and speed. Routes can also be transferred to compatible B&G and Simrad chartplotters.

Additional features include PassageWiki route sharing, vessel tracking and onboard storage for important documents, including registrations, insurance details and equipment manuals.

Designed to complement existing onboard electronics, Scout offers boaters a portable navigation solution suitable for use at the helm, belowdecks or aboard a tender.
