Dutch superyacht builder Oceanco and Pininfarina have unveiled details of their first-ever collaboration – a new superyacht concept called Kairos.
Designed to “recalibrate yacht design”, the hybrid concept was revealed by Netherlands-based custom yacht builder Oceanco. With Lateral Naval Architects’ technical design and engineering development, Kairos features an e-Hybrid propulsion system that uses batteries as the primary source of energy. It was created in harmony with Oceanco’s NXT initiative on sustainability and innovation.
KAIROS is the first concept revealed under the pioneering NXT initiative, created to improve collaboration between experts across the industry and set benchmarks to create a better future for yachting. Oceanco is committed to a zero-impact future and has made big promises to use technology to pave the way for a tangible future of sustainable yachting – KAIROS is just one indicator of what this could look like.Â
KAIROS’ name is taken from the ancient Greek word for ‘time’, which in this instance means “the time that is associated with being energised by possibility, celebration and the potential of the future”, according to the release. Not much else is known about the vessel now, but judging by this statement, we can expect great things.
