Tohatsu has introduced MFS25 and FS30D outboards which are coming in almost 20% lighter than previous models

The company’s all-new MFS25 and MFS30D four-stroke outboards are said to be the lightest three-cylinder engines in their class thanks to what is being described as a revolutionary design architecture that substantially reduces the engine weight without sacrificing durability or performance.

“The all new MFS25/30D model is engineered to fit a variety of boating applications,” said Tohatsu Corporation president, Isami Hyuga. “We have managed to cut down the weight by almost 20% from its predecessor.”

Apart from its lighter heft, the new engines boast a range of additional technical innovations including an all-new tiller handle that includes a stop switch, a four-step trolling speed control system starting at 750 RPM, a forward-neutral-reverse shifter and a throttle friction adjustment. Certain models also include an electric start button, and power trim and tilt switch.

Tohatsu notes that its multi-function tiller handle includes three-position height adjustment, with the availability of expanding to four-position adjustment with an optional accessory. Remote control models of the new engines are also available, and are compatible with Tohatsu’s existing control range.

Available in Tohatsu Aqua Marine Blue and Beluga White finishes, the MFS25 and MFS30 will be offered in multiple shaft lengths to function with a wide range of popular inflatable, RIB, aluminum fishing and pontoon boats. Delivery of the new engines is expected to begin in late summer 2022.
