French manufacturer Temo has launched a new 1000 W model portable electric motor, intended for dinghies and sailboats up to 8m.

After the success of the Temo 450, the brand’s first portable electric motor, the French manufacturer of electric outboards for pleasure boats has announced the arrival of a new model, the Temo 1000. Intended for dinghies up to six people and sailboats up to 8m, it should be available in March 2023.
For this new motor with an electric power of 1,000 W, Temo announces a power at the propeller of 500 W and a static thrust of 28 kg. The manufacturer has completely revised the architecture of the product compared to the Temo 450. The Temo 1000 resembles a thick rudder profile, with a simple base at the bottom. The aluminum profile and the overall design means a total weight of 13 kg, including 5 kg of battery.

The motor battery system is integrated into the vertical profile. It connects automatically to the insert with an IP67 waterproof connector. With a capacity of 20 Ah, it is interchangeable. The recharge time is 5 hours at 220 V and 12 hours at 12 V. The announced autonomy at full power is 45 minutes.
The engine integrates a tiller that retracts inside the profile. Depending on the boat, the Temo 1000 can be used to propel the boat, while remaining in the axis, fixed on a plate screwed to the deck, without requiring a chair. This may be suitable for small sailboats with an open cockpit. On the other hand, on a dinghy, the motor is fixed on a free axis at 360° by a simple clip. The shaft itself is fixed to the transom.
To get rid of the choice of shaft length, long or short, the Temo 1000 is equipped with a vertical rail that allows to adjust the height of the propeller to the hull. It remains to be seen how this will really impact the comfort of the helmsman.
While waiting for the real test, this new Temo seems to propose again an original version of the electric motor, which does not simply copy a thermal outboard motor.
