Sasga Menorquin yachts proving popular in New Zealand

Menorquin semi-displacement vessels first arrived in NZ, in December 2021 beginning with a 34’ Hardtop sedan and was sold to a Marlborough couple. Close on its heels was a 42’ Hardtop, followed by a 54’ Hardtop which was also sold.

All models have achieved the highest EU Recreational Craft Directive rating Cat A classification. This is only given to self-sufficient boats capable of extended voyages with winds of over 40 knots, and significant wave heights above 4m.

Vessels must meet rigorous standards of stability, buoyancy, and good handling characteristics to qualify.

These modern trawler style launches echo the history and elegance of Menorca’s traditional fishing boats. Manufactured in a modern shipyard on the Spanish Balearic island of Menorca, Sasga Yachts utilises state-of-the-art resin-infused hull-moulding to produce a strong, lightweight hull, resulting in maximum strength and efficiency.

Powered by twin Volvo Penta diesel inboards on shafts this harmonious combination of hull design and engine choice gives the ability to run at 20 kts.

Well known NZ marine industry veteran Bruce McGill who is marketing the boats, says,  “The Sasga Yachts Menorquin’s semi displacement hull design allows them to glide through the water efficiently with engines half the horsepower of similar sized production mono hulls.”

Sasga Yachts are available in sedan or flybridge with six models ranging from 34ft to 68ft.
