ANNIVERSARY EDITION

With the release of the all-new 75 series, Australian luxury motor yacht builder Maritimo has reinforced its dedication and commitment as one of the world’s leading motor yacht brands.

It is twenty years since founder Bill Barry-Cotter laid the keel for his first Maritimo, so the launching at SCIBS 2023 of their biggest vessels to date, the sedan S75 and flybridge M75 was very timely. The S75 Sedan is the new flagship vessel within Maritimo’s S-Series, joining the S51, S55 and S60 Sedan motor yachts. The M75 bolsters the M Series alongside the M64, M60, M55 and M51 as the jewel in the crown of the M Series flybridge motor yachts. Maritimo Design Director Tom Barry-Cotter says they are building on the momentum of their new model development strategy introduced in 2021, with S75 and M75 the next instalment of the brand’s emphasis on the large motor yacht sector. “The S75 sedan motor yacht draws from a wealth of feedback from our owners worldwide, spanning more than two years of concept development and planning.” “At Maritimo, owner input is something that is constantly used by our Australian design team, and the S75 sees us creating our most progressive S-Series vessel to date whilst retaining the Maritimo DNA of long-range e’ciency, superb ride, the safety of walk-around decks, and superior quality from construction through to furnishings”.

EXTERIOR STYLE AND GRACE

The S75 is a unique single-level o”shore cruising motor yacht with long-range adventuring capability. An elongated hardtop overhang with black styling accents enshrouds glorious alfresco deck spaces. $e massive Adventure Deck is eye-catching, with a staggering 18 sqm overall space. It is more something you might expect to find on a small superyacht. It’s an area that begs to be used, from the centre stage for an onboard party to bean bags and cocktails, lounging in the sun or maybe a game of basketball. Well, perhaps not the latter, but it does make you think. It is extremely versatile from storage to lounging, adventuring to cooking, with the wet bar module and its sink, top-loading fridge, and electric grill a real focal point. Access to the utility cabin is from here. There are huge rope lockers on either side, and optional capstan winches can be !tted. Getting around the side decks is easy, and like all, Maritimos has wide, deep bulwarks. Whether this is along the side decks to connect the forward sunbed and lounge, up onto the lounging and dining options of the upper cockpit deck, or inside to the galley, saloon, and accommodations beyond, Maritimo has made sure that access everywhere on the S75 is seamless. If you love entertaining, you’ll appreciate the upper cockpit deck al fresco dining location. The optional electric sliding sunroof above is a cool feature that opens to reveal the stars. There is an outside grill, and the aft galley meal preparation is simple. Various formats are available, and all can easily accommodate eight people for sit-down meals. The hardtop headliner’s significant overhang means the entire Upper cockpit lounging and dining area is completely covered and has electric roll-down breezeway blinds secreted into the ceiling above to o”er even more privacy or protection.

SPACE APLENTY

Across the entire S75, the level of craftsmanship is highly apparent. “You’ll notice that there are smooth moulded finishes everywhere on the vessel – even in the engine room when you look up,” said Operations Director Phil Candler. “This results from continued development in our production processes and how we have designed and constructed the S75. It is a new era for Maritimo. The main mouldings are backed up with moulded liners, allowing us to create sub-assemblies for synchronised production flow and creating even more inherent strength in the vessel. We’ve added to our patented liner system, which affords even greater oceangoing capabilities and further minimises noise and vibration,” Candler said. “Being liveaboard ready is just as an integral element of the Maritimo DNA as engineering and performance,” says Barry-Cotter. “Our long-range galleys are considered more like residential kitchens, always featuring domestic sized appliances, significant workspaces, and built-for-purpose storage capabilities, such as our full height pull-out pantries and full height refrigeration.” Every time I step inside the saloon of a Maritimo, I am always impressed by the expansive windows, another hallmark of the brand. Combined with low sash height and slim frames, ensuring every sight line is filled with the surrounding seascapes. It delivers the most engaging view when added to the optional two-stage vista windows and electric sliding roof. There are dedicated elevated lounging and dining options, including a cruising lounge adjacent to the two pilots’ chairs and a massive 65″ screen that reveals itself via electric lift.

FOUR STATEROOMS

The S75’s atrium stairwell at the front of the saloon floats in space, delivering plenty of natural light down below. As you would expect in a boat of this size, there are four staterooms and three ensuites. The full beam master stateroom is in the middle of the vessel and features Maritimos largest ever panoramic hull windows with opening ports. A king bed occupies the centre of the stateroom, and immediately behind it is a cavernous walk-in wardrobe and the luxuriously appointed master ensuite. The forward VIP stateroom includes an offset queen berth for guests to walk around each side and an adjoining private ensuite. A generous twin guest stateroom is to starboard, which can be slid together to create a queen arrangement for couples. This stateroom also has an adjoining ensuite that serves the other, under and above guest stateroom to the port side. Additionally, the Utility Cabin under the upper cockpit can be configured as a crew room and is serviced by an ensuite.

STORAGE SOLUTIONS

When voyaging further afield, it is vital to have plenty of storage areas, and the S75 has plenty. The hardtop utility deck can house a tender, SUPs, kayaks, and life rafts, with a 350kg crane to make it as easy as it is practical. The most spacious lazarette on any Maritimo is also ideal for all your water toys. Alternatively, the area can house a smaller 3.2m tender and 350kg davit crane for those wishing to conceal everything below deck, keeping the adventure deck clear for other uses. The S75 can carry items on the adventure deck or cradle on the optional 1.4m hydraulic swim platform. The utility cabin’s versatility extends from additional accommodation to a workshop and even more storage.

ENGINEERED FOR CRUISING

Maritimo promotes seaworthiness, ride comfort, and inherent stability and emphasises long-range efficiency. Being able to cruise further and more confidently is the very essence of what Maritimo is about. Barry-Cotter says one of the core elements is the patented structural monocoque system. This is where the internal liner that runs almost the entire length of the S75 is bonded to the hull to form a unitary platform. The Maritimo 75 Hull is an advanced evolution of its proven variable deadrise hull design, which features an aggressive 61 deg bow entry that progressively transitions to 4.4 deg at the transom. The hull also integrates large flared reversed outer chines and planing strakes, which create lift and deflect wash downwards, enhancing Maritimo’s already proven dry-running hull design. “Maritimo’s hull design philosophy is centred on the highly efficient cruising economy throughout the RPM range, combined with exceptional sea-keeping capabilities”, says Barry-Cotter. He added that the hull design is completely new and has evolved from 20 years of experience designing long range cruising hulls for straight-shaft propulsion. There are design elements such as the bow entry that have carried through from previous hull designs, as well as some new advancements, and some of those features will carry through into future hulls. Part of this overall construction method is the two wing tanks carrying 3500l each and the 3000l main tank situated at keel level. Apart from all being around the centre of buoyancy so that they do not alter the vessel’s attitude as they get used, they also keep the weight down low, which keeps the centre of gravity close to water level, and makes for a more stable craft. With a 10,000-litre capacity and excellent efficiency, the S75 can take owners further with fewer stops. “The hallmark of any Maritimo is the inline powertrains and shallow shaft angle for optimal efficiency,” said Barry-Cotter. In the case of the S75, this also means a 1.5m draft, which allows for up-close anchoring in a multitude of locations the world over. Standard power comes from a pair of Scania Di16-1150MHP diesel driving five blade Nibral propellers, and there are optional MTU 10V2000M86 1380MHP or MTU 10V2000M96L 1625MHP units as well.

SUPERB HANDLING

Running the S75 in long following sea off the Gold Coast, it felt strong and stiff in all directions; following, head or side swell, it tracked with confidence and surefootedness, with no bow steer or wandering. This is helped by the long 8.42sqm deep keel, which runs well forward. In aggressive turns, the S75 remains flat without any noticeable heel. A pair of ARG gyros make a difference while underway and at rest. The boat is well-balanced and doesn’t show any adverse squatting during acceleration. As the S75 can be optioned with various tender arrangements such as tender on the forward deck, hardtop utility deck, tender garage, adventure deck, or hydraulic swim platform, rigorous testing in perfecting setups related to the variance in weight distribution was required. The 75’s 10,000L fuel capacity, and 1,400L water capacity, are designed to be positioned as close to the centre of buoyancy as possible for the variable loads within the vessel not to affect the vessel’s trim and performance. The Scania Di16-1150s gave a top speed of 28 knots, with 24 knots @ 2050rpm at 80% load. Fuel figures were an impressive 300 lph and a range of around 625nm. At 18 knots, we recorded 68dB at the helm.

THREE YEARS DEVELOPMENT

The S75 is the culmination of over three years of development by the Maritimo team in collaborating with Maritimo owners. “When you consider the evolution of Maritimo over the last 20 years, you understand that the foundations for the development of the S75 started back then,” says Barry-Cotter. Over Maritimo’s 20 Years, they have crafted hundreds of vessels around the 60-70ft category, and there has always been strong demand for larger models. The release of the S75 and the M75 heralds the start of Maritimo’s 20th Anniversary celebrations and are the epitome of everything that is Maritimo.
