The New Zealand marine industry has lost one of its true gentlemen with the passing of Brian Collings last week, founder and driving force behind AMF Boat Company and Rivercity Marine in Whanganui.
For more than four decades, Brian’s passion for boats, craftsmanship, and innovation set a benchmark for quality and integrity in New Zealand alloy boatbuilding. Through AMF, he created a legacy of strong, capable vessels renowned for their durability and sea-keeping ability, boats built to handle the most challenging New Zealand conditions. His meticulous attention to detail and deep respect for the sea earned him admiration from customers, colleagues, and competitors alike.
Beyond his remarkable professional achievements, Brian was known for his humility, generosity, and genuine kindness. He was always willing to share his knowledge, offer guidance, and celebrate the successes of others in the industry he loved so deeply.
Brian will be sadly missed by his devoted wife, Jodi, his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His contribution to the marine industry and the integrity with which he lived and worked will continue to inspire for years to come.
Fair winds and following seas, Brian.
