ASL GRP UNVEILS BALLISTIC OUTBOARD COVER BREAKTHROUGH

by admin

Specialists in advanced composite armour systems, Air Sea Land Group (ASL GRP) has unveiled enhanced levels of protection for its ballistic outboard engine covers, now incorporating Infra-Red Reflective (IRR) material and MOLLE system innovations — a first-of-its-kind solution for the marine and defence sectors.

Launched last year, ASL GRP’s ballistic outboard covers are engineered to withstand projectile impact, small-arms fire and high-velocity blast fragmentation. Removable, flexible and custom-made, the covers provide a critical layer of defence, reinforcing vessel survivability in high-risk environments by protecting the primary propulsion system and ensuring continued mobility under threat.

With a strong order book extending into 2026, the ballistic outboard covers combine advanced composite engineering with a practical, operator-focused design. Each cover is custom-built to suit the specific engine make, model and size, offering two levels of ballistic protection as well as defence against fragmentation — an industry-first advantage that sets ASL GRP apart.

To further enhance operational capability, the latest covers can be manufactured with an optional Infra-Red Reflective (IRR) coating, which significantly reduces engine visibility when viewed through night-vision or IR-sensitive surveillance equipment. The composite material construction also naturally dampens engine noise during operation, contributing to reduced acoustic signatures.

For operators requiring additional on-mission functionality, the covers can be fitted with MOLLE webbing made from heavy-duty nylon. This allows essential tools, equipment or mission-critical accessories to be securely attached directly to the exterior of the engine cover, maximising operational efficiency without compromising performance.

ASL GRP’s custom design process ensures optimal fit and full engine functionality, without restricting access or interfering with operation or maintenance. The covers are entirely removable and can be installed or removed in seconds, with no modification required to the original engine or vessel configuration.

Managing Director Jon Diffey says protecting vessel mobility is critical in hostile maritime operations. “Outboard engines are often targeted by small arms fire or exposed to blast fragmentation. Protecting the powerhead is an important survivability measure, giving craft and crew the ability to keep moving when it matters most.”

Designed for use across military, border force, policing, commercial and humanitarian operations worldwide, the ballistic outboard covers are available in black, grey and camouflage finishes to match vessel livery and operational requirements.

ASL GRP’s ballistic outboard covers are an intelligent investment for fast patrol vessels, RIBs, inflatables and other tactical craft reliant on outboard propulsion.
