New York Yacht Club & Volvo Penta team up on AC Hydrogen Chase boat

Sustainability, new collaborations, and a raft of new launches and future projects provided rich pickings at Sanlorenzo’s annual evening press conference to kick off the Cannes Yacht Festival last week. This included details of the new Volvo Penta pilot IPS engine and EODev and its fuel cell development. Significantly the new BGM 65HH (Hybrid Hydrogen) will use the technology from the American Magic chase boat.

Hydrogen and fuel cell development is a major focus for the boatbuilder, with the company giving details of the yard’s new 50m steel superyacht that is to be powered by methanol fuel cells being developed in an agreement with Siemens Energy.

As part of the roadmap, the 50m launch will be followed by Bluegame’s American Magic chase boat (BGH), scheduled to hit the water in late 2024. In 2025 the first BGM (Bluegame Multihull) 65HH will be unveiled. Sanlorenzo also has an agreement with MTU for the adoption of its 4,000hp engine linked to fuel cells, the first application of which will be in 2026, when Sanlorenzo launches a superyacht Explorer that it says will be 100% carbon neutral.
