Bluefin’s powerful new Piranha P4 range of underwater lights, which, for the first time, includes the option of green lighting, is likely to prove a huge bonus for Kiwi fishers.
Green light has been proven to attract phytoplankton as the plankton migrate towards green light for reproduction and photosynthesis. The research, from a University of Florida study, also showed this concentration of plankton then acts as strong lure for baitfish which, in turn, draw in larger predator fish.
“This is great news for keen fishers,” says Peter Precey from New Zealand Bluefin distributor, Lusty & Blundell, “especially for those who fish at night. And further research, from a USF Marine Biology Department experiment, has shown that, regardless of where people are fishing or whether they are targeting baitfish or something larger for the table, using green underwater lights greatly enhances their chances.”
Bluefin’s new Piranha P4 range is also an impressive 25% more powerful (up from 1600 lumens to 2000), meaning greater penetration into the water column when fishing and an even more impressive display in the marina or anchorage. The entire range is dual voltage (12V & 24V) and features X-beam technology that produces a 60° beam angled down to illuminate from just below the surface and deep into the water.
In addition to the fish-attracting Emerald Green, the new P4 polymer-bodied range is also now available in Dual Green/White with White strobe and Dual Green/Blue with White strobe, as well as Bluefin’s traditional Cobalt Blue, Diamond White (a true white) and Colour Change RGBW.
For those wanting even more power, the new P4 Hi Power aluminium and bronze- bodied range includes Cobalt Blue and Diamond White. These output 3100 lumens, as do the new Dual Green/White with White strobe and Dual Green/Blue with White strobe. The new P4 Hi Power Colour Change RGBW is even brighter, putting out a powerful 4000 lumens.
The Piranha P4 range is compact and has a low profile suitable for all hull types. The lights are surface-mounted, easy to install, have built-in driver technology with active thermal rollback and are easy to control by toggle switch.
