BRP SELLS TELWATER BOAT BUSINESS TO YAMAHA MOTOR AUSTRALIA

Sale of Coomera-based boat manufacturing business supports corporate refocus on core powersports activities, including Sea-Doo. Quebec, Canada-based BRP Inc announced early today that it has entered into a definitive agreement to sell 100% of the outstanding shares of its Telwater Pty boat business to Yamaha Motor Australia Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of Yamaha Motor Co. Financial terms were not disclosed.

BRP’s Telwater business includes the Quintrex, Stacer and Savage boat brands. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approval, and is expected to be completed in the second quarter of BRP’s fiscal 2026. The announcement follows BRP’s declaration last October that it intends to divest its marine businesses in order to focus on core powersports activities, including its Sea-Doo business.

“We are pleased with today’s announcement, our first transaction in the process for the sale of our marine businesses,” said BRP president and CEO, José Boisjoli. “I would like to sincerely thank all of the talented employees for their contribution and commitment over the years. We know we can count on their professionalism to continue supporting our dealers and customers with dedication through this transition period, until the transaction is completed.”

The acquisition of Queensland, Australia-based Telwater is intended to strengthen the foundations of Yamaha Motor’s marine business, and the company aims to expand the sales network in the country while reinforcing its outboard motor business. Yamaha positions boatbuilding as a core business operation, and in its new medium-term management plan announced in February, made increasing the competitiveness of its core businesses part of its basic policy.

Telwater is one of Australia’s oldest boat manufacturers and one of the major producers and seller of boats in the southern hemisphere. BRP acquired the business in 2019 as the third brand in its newly formed marine group, joining the previously acquired and US-based Manitou and Alumacraft brands.
