According to the Boating Industry Association’s (BIA) 2024 National Recreational Boating Survey, fishing is the top reason people are getting into boating. The survey revealed that 49 percent of boating trips are primarily for fishing, mirroring data from the Australian Government, which found 4.2 million Australians take part in recreational fishing each year. Of these, nearly 60 percent fish both from shore and from a boat, while the rest are evenly split between land-based and boat-based fishing. BIA President Adam Smith said fishing has become more than a hobby, it’s a key part of boating culture and a major contributor to the economy. “Recreational fishing supports over 100,000 jobs and contributes $11 billion to the Australian economy annually,” Mr Smith said.

For those who love casting a line, whether offshore, in estuaries or on inland rivers, the 2025 Sydney Boat Show from 14–17 August at Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park will be the ultimate destination. “For enthusiasts through to professionals, the show will feature cutting-edge fishing tackle, advanced fish finders, trolling motors, new gear and gadgets, plus hundreds of boats,” said Mr Smith. “Every taste, style and budget will be catered for.” Some of the top fishing brands attending include Anaconda, Blakes Marine, Boston Whaler, Edencraft, Garmin, Hot Tackle, JD’s Boat Shed, Navico Group, Queensland Marine Centre, Raymarine, TR Marine and more.
