GP HYDROPLANES – THE PRESSURE WAS ON AT KARAPIRO

by admin

The NZ Trade Zone Powerboat Nationals and the Lucas Oil Hydro Thunder championship series just held at Lake Karapiro, Cambridge was nothing short of spectacular with fierce battles happening across all classes.

89 competitors fought for their NZ Championship titles in 12 different classes, from Juniors to the spectacular Grand Prix Hydroplanes. Scott Coker’s Howzat GP10 took out his first win in round 3 of the Lucas Oil Hydro Thunder Championship Series on the Sunday. The highlight of the weekend was to be the running of the 100th Masport Cup, to be run over two heats.

The first heat was flagged as a false start, and during the second attempt chaos unfolded when Raymond Hart and Andrew Tate collided in the first corner, bringing out the red flag! With several boats damaged, and being late in the afternoon, the Officials had no choice but to call it a day.

With the incomplete running of the 100th Masport Cup due to a multitude of influences, the club is pleased to announce a new date and location of this historic event! New date 29-30th  March 2025, at Lake Ruataniwha Twizel. This will also be the final of the Lucas Oil Hydro Thunder  Championship series. Join them at Lake Ruataniwha for what will be an unforgettable race!
