Humphree Launches Integrated Three-component Stabilisation System

Humphree has unveiled a new integrated boat stabilisation system at the recent Cannes Yachting Festival, combining a gyro, fins and interceptors into a single coordinated platform.

The system pairs the company’s new HIG5 gyro with its existing fin and interceptor technologies, aiming to improve onboard comfort across the full speed range. Rather than operating independently, the three components work together under a central control unit that continuously monitors the boat’s movement and adjusts their response.

Building on Humphree’s established fin stabilisation technology, the addition of the gyro broadens the system’s capabilities across different sea conditions and operating situations. The integrated approach coordinates roll, pitch, and yaw management, allowing each component to contribute where it is most effective.

According to Humphree, the combined system can reduce roll by up to 95 per cent, depending on the vessel and operating conditions. The gyro generates a stabilising force by spinning at several thousand revolutions per minute, helping to counteract wave-induced movement. A dedicated control unit continuously manages its operation, adjusting its response in real time as part of the wider stabilisation system.

The marine industry has traditionally treated stabilisation technologies as separate components, selected and managed independently. The company’s approach brings them together to optimise performance for each vessel, its intended use and operating profile. For boatbuilders, sourcing all three components from one supplier provides a single point of contact for installation, integration, servicing and ongoing optimisation. Owners also benefit from coordinated technical support throughout the vessel’s life.

The HIG5 is the first model in a new gyro range intended to accommodate boats of different sizes.

Humphree systems support remote access, allowing technicians to diagnose faults, assist with sea trials and configure settings from afar. This capability simplifies servicing and minimises downtime.

Following its Cannes debut, the integrated solution is being introduced through boatbuilders and selected dealers in the Mediterranean, with a North American launch to follow.
