LAUNCH OF M/Y ISLA

Motor Yacht Isla, an explorer styled New Zealand built Superyacht, was launched recently in Whangārei.

The collaborative build saw the use of several Whangarei based contractors and companies including Harbourside Boat Works, Kit Carlier Design, Marine and Industrial Electrics, Marine and Industrial Rebuilds and JP Marine as well as one Auckland company Pine Harbour Boat Painters.

The final build process was completed at Harbourside Boat Works by their vastly experienced team who specialise in refits & repairs, yacht joinery, conversion projects and insurance work.

Director Nic Rawlings had a hands on approach to the completion of M/Y Isla and worked hard alongside the other companies to achieve the final result.

JP Marine oversaw the Project Management of the vessel’s build, after coming onto the project in 2020. With several Superyacht builds under Director Jonathon Edgar’s belt, he was keen to take on a project here in New Zealand.

“It has been a truly unique experience being involved in the construction of Isla. She is unique and built to a very high standard with attention to detail. The quality of workmanship and passion coming from Whangārei based companies is second to none.” Says Edgar.

Marine and Industrial Electrical is another of the Whangārei based companies that were involved in the build. They were contracted to carry out the design and installation of the electrical system on M/Y Isla and worked closely with a number of other companies to collaborate on the vessel.

Similarly, Marine and Industrial Rebuilds came onboard with the project in June 2020 and have been involved with the mechanical fit out and engineering requirements.

The 24m vessel has been built tough, with serious offshore cruising in mind. Embodying the traditional exploration qualities such as extreme sea going and long-range capabilities as well as comfort and stability.
