Navigating The Build Process – Part 6

Pacific PowerBoat Magazine is excited to continue our series on the build process of the Bill Upfold-designed Elite 22M Flybridge Motor Yacht. Currently under construction at Weber Marine in Gulf Harbour, Auckland, this journey takes us from initial concept discussions with the owner to its on-water launch and culminates in a detailed review scheduled for late 2026.

THE DECK

With the deck still in Shed One, now post-cured after being baked for 12 hours at 60°C
It has been faired and prepared for painting with two coats of Interprotect (epoxy undercoat)
Midship, the integral fuel tanks have been completed and lids added, and are now awaiting pressure testing.

To keep the build process rolling, the team from Glass Shape has digitally scanned the
window rebates to pattern the curved screens and hull windows.

THE HULL

With the tender garage and water tank now installed in position
Along with a nicely gloss-painted engine room and lazarette

Once the (temporary) internal bracing was in place, it was time to pull the now 8.3-tonne hull
out of the shed and roll it over to the right way up. After being moved back into the shed, the
hull was reset in position using a laser to ensure it was perfectly level.

Next up for the hull: The MID Marine Engineers continue their magic, fabricating the engine
mounts and ‘hiabing’ the twin 2.6-tonne MAN (1550 hp each) V12 engines into position,
along with the Kohler generator and Humphree stabilisers.
