Yamaha Motor New Zealand Ltd has appointed Richard Shaw as its new Marine National Manager for the New Zealand market.

Shaw, who is currently the National Manager for the company’s Motorcycle products, will switch roles to oversee the company’s Marine division effective immediately. A well-known identity, Shaw is no stranger to the New Zealand Marine industry, having been active in the sector for over 20-years.

“I’m excited to be back and focussing on our Marine business and looking forward to reconnecting with our marine dealer network and of course the boat builders,” says Shaw.

“Of the 43 marine dealers we have, I know about 75 percent of them, it’s exciting to reconnect with all of them and meet a few new faces along the way.”

Yamaha Motor New Zealand General Manager Alan Petrie said Shaw’s experience in the Marine sector is invaluable for the brand and part of a company strategy to nurture talent and to promote from within the organisation.

“With any organisation you get organic personnel changes, and when those changes occur you look to put the best people in place. Richard’s background in marine is incredibly strong, he’s well known to many of our marine dealers and has a good understanding of the market,” says Petrie.

“When you look at our marine team as a whole, every single member is engaged personally with on water activities, whether that be with WaveRunners or their own boats. I think that’s one thing that defines Yamaha, we live the product, and is something that defines the brand a little more than other companies.”
