PWC BUYERS GUIDE 2023

Yamaha Waverunner VX LTD

It’s almost steady as she goes from the three major players in the PWC market for 2023. Yamaha and Kawasaki are more about colour alters and upgrades to existing models, with Sea Doo reinvented a couple of existing models to diversify the brands appeal.  For 2023 Sea Doo are offering 17 models, Yamaha 14 and Kawasaki 5. Again, there are only two stand-ups, one each from Yamaha and Kawasaki. All are four strokes and none have yet announced a serious move into the electric PWC market, preferring to leave that to a number of niche companies around the world.

KAWASAKI NEW COLOURS

Kawasaki will have three tiers of all new for 2023 Ultra 310 JetSkis as well as the three STX 160 models, as well as a newly renamed SX-R. However only the STX160X will be imported into New Zealand in 2023. While no major changes were announced for 2023 Kawasaki did will have new colourways.

All three supercharged Ultras will remain identical in colour and trim as their 2022 predecessors. For the STX lineup, there are no changes to trim, features or accessories but colour liveries and prices were changed.

Whether out for some weekend fun or racing competitively, the Jet Ski SX-R 160 personal watercraft features powerful thrust and agile rider-active handling from the V-shape hull and produces plenty of low-to-mid-range torque from its 1498cc 4-stroke engine. The 2023 Jet Ski SX-R 160 stand-up watercraft is available with an Ebony/Lime Green colourway.

The Kawasaki Jet Ski Ultra 310 series boasts a liquid-cooled, supercharged, in-line 4-cylinder, 1498cc engine and digital fuel injection. Riders can select from four power modes (full, middle, low and SLO) to suit their riding conditions or skill level. Its race-inspired hull allows the Jet Ski Ultra 310 to be handled with accuracy and precision.

All new colours for the 310 series

Kawasaki Launch Control Mode (KLCM) offers two modes to benefit acceleration, while Kawasaki Smart Reverse with Deceleration (KSRD) allows for reverse assist options when navigating tight spots. A 7” TFT instrumentation adorns the dash of the Ultra 310 series and features Bluetooth connectivity as well as multiple display modes. The 2023 3-passenger supercharged Jet Ski Ultra 310X comes in an Ebony/Metallic Electric Turquoise colourway.

The Jet Ski Ultra 310LX-S includes all of the great features offered on the Ultra 310 series as well as an exclusive ULTRA Deck with an extended rear deck and 7.9 inches of additional staging platform for water play and storing gear. Two multi-mount rails are built into the ULTRA Deck to accommodate additional accessory slide mounts and provide accessible tie-down points. It also comes equipped with a rearview camera that can be monitored on the instrument panel when in use and stylish LED accent lights that have been added to the front of the Jet Ski. The 3-passenger supercharged Jet Ski Ultra 310LX-S is offered in an Ebony/Lime Green.

It utilises a balanced hull, ergonomic riding position, large fuel tank and storage compartment, along with several easy-to-use rider aid functions to create a comfortable and exciting three-seat personal watercraft that appeals to a wide range of riders. In addition to the STX 160’s standard features, the Jet Ski STX 160X features adjustable electronic cruise control speed, which can be set with the UP/DOWN buttons located on the handlebar. It also features a comfort handle grip that tapers outward, making it easier to hold on when riding in a straight line and a premium painted deck. SEADOO – DIVERSE RANGE

While the 2023 Se Doo model range remains much the same as 2022, there are a couple of new and exciting models for 2023, which offer a whole new perspective to the PWC market.

Big news for 2023 is the addition to the top of the Sea Doo line up with the new RXP-X Apex 300. The new Apex is a new carbon fibre style with racing green accents and full of features. A great looker it is also epic to ride and while featuring all the best of the RXPX models, it has even more cool features.

There is a dedicated front bumper for added protection and easier handling of the unit when docking, beaching and departing whilst also adding to the machines rugged look

The Apex comes wrapped in Racing Green and Graphite Gray, and featuring carbon fiber on the mirrors and hood with blacked-out emblems.

Sea Doo Explorer Pro 170

What truly sets the Apex apart from the standard RXP-X 300 (which returns in Millennium Yellow and Premium Triple Black) is the use of a Hydraulic Steering Damper on a reinforced steering column (with three resistance settings).

The adjustable hydraulic dampening action is designed to reduce the amount of rider input necessary to track through chop – particularly at speed – and consequently, reduce rider fatigue. The exclusive Apex also includes both seating options for the RXP-X, the high-backed single seat (Ergolock-R) and the optional passenger seat. Otherwise, all other characteristics of the Apex remain identical as the standard RXP-X (sponsons, power output, weight, etc.)

New for 2023 also is the new long range Explorer Pro 170, Sea Doo’s first ever adventure model.

This machine shares a great deal in common with the Fish Pro Sport 170, employing the full-sized ST3 platform, the same thickly-padded flat “Touring” bench seat, gunwale footrests, a modified Fish Pro extended rear deck and 7-inch Garmin GPS/Fish Finder combination navigator.

Sea Doo RXP-X Apex 300
Sea Doo RXP-X Apex 300

The Explorer Pro 170 includes several firsts for both Sea-Doo and the PWC industry like a full-sized removable windshield, a heavy-duty front bumper, a vertically-adjustable steering neck, a LinQ Explore Bag, a standard LinQ multi-cargo rack, and a redesigned rear platform with three-times the LinQ mounts, allowing adventurers to bring upwards of SIX LinQ accessories! The Explorer Pro 170 will appeal to those who want to venture far upriver, down the coastline, and even camp overnight near the shoreline. These two new models stand alone as the solitary additions to the family of Sea-Doo watercraft, and expands the brand’s already diverse variety of purpose-built products.

Apart from a limited number of new colourations – including the top-of-the-line GTX Limited 300, GTI and Spark models – the remainder of the watercraft lineup are direct carryovers from 2022 in both livery and equipment. This decision allows the 2023 lineup to seamlessly dovetail into last year’s production run.
