by admin

Tomorrow sees the opening of MESTRADE (METS), Amsterdam, which will see a strong presence from Kiwi companies.

Earlier this year, the NZ Marine Export Group created a new division focussing solely on increasing the number of visiting superyachts to New Zealand between May 2022 –December 2024 = “Superyacht New Zealand”.  Along with a number of New Zealand companies they are a key exhibitor at this year’s METS.

Superyacht New Zealand’s goal was to increase the number of superyachts coming to New Zealand back to 60 superyachts per annum by 2024, providing potential of $210 million in business to the marine industry.

In April NZ Marine approved the Superyacht New Zealand Business plan 2022-2024 and have since been very active in approaching local and central government for support. The NZ Marine Export Group Board approved $NZ126,000 of reserves to start this activity, and to the programme has seen considerable activity since being implemented.

The new Superyacht New Zealand brand and website has been created and a 10-month PR and marketing campaign undertaken. The marketing goals are to encourage an increase in the length of stay in the country, establish New Zealand as the charter base of the Pacific and cement it’s place as a superyacht adventure destination and launch point.

Superyacht New Zealand is also all about promoting New Zealand as a superyacht sustainability destination and to promote New Zealand as the quality destination through the strength of its companies. Some of the inititives includes a brochure which has key contacts and information for visiting NZ – it also has a compilation of entry requirements from Australia, Tahiti, Fiji and NZ that we coordinate.  This brochure has been very well received internationally.

Superyacht New Zealand has also produced a Destination and Cruising NZ guide, which outlined details  of major unpcoming events such as  that NZ Marine Export Group/Superyacht NZ would support. These included the Superyacht Cup Palma, Superyacht Gathering Fiji, the Monaco Yacht Show, the recent Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show and METS Amsterdam which starts tomorrow.

Nine companies will be exhibiting in the NZ pavilions in both Hall 2 and Superyacht Pavilion, plus many more have registered to be ‘walkers’, and will utilise the Kiwi base during the show. Those exhibiting include, C-Quip, Doyle Sails, Fastmount, Foam Anchor, Manson Anchors, PropSpeed, Railblaza and Ultralon.
