TAURANGA & SYDNEY BOAT SHOWS CANCELLED

Sydney has always been one of the most popular boat shows in Australia.

The Tauranga Boats Show and the Sydney Festival of Boating have been cancelled.

The Tauranga Boat Show was due to be held over the same three days in October as the Auckland Boat Show, which was of some concern to the event organisers.

They felt that the clash would be detrimental to their show and have chosen to cancel this year’s event, despite solid pre-show bookings from exhibitors.

It was also announced last week that the Sydney Festival of Boating (previously the Sydney International Boat Show) was also off. The 2021 Sydney Festival of Boating, which was due to be held from 29 July to 1 August, has been cancelled due to a rise in the number of Covid cases and a short-term lockdown in the city which may be extended.

The Tauranga Boat Show had all the hallmarks of being a very successful regional show.

The Australian Boating Industry Association (BIA), the event organiser, which was planned as a one-year replacement to the usual annual and larger Sydney International Boat Show, cancelled the event in line with New South Wales state Covid protocols and travel restrictions.

Darren Vaux, BIA president, commented: “The decision was made more difficult because the Sydney Festival of Boating was sold-out regarding exhibition space and was oversubscribed for the event marina.”
