Japanese engine manufacturer Tohatsu Corporation celebrates 70 years of outboard engine production in 2026. Since the company’s first mass-produced “OB” model debuted in 1956, Tohatsu has delivered more than five million outboard engines to customers around the world.
“For 70 years, our success has been driven by the passion and commitment of every individual, from our engineers and factory teams to our partners and customers,” said Tohatsu president, Isami Hyuga. “This anniversary is a time to honour our legacy and embrace the future. We are committed to delivering next-generation propulsion systems that deliver cutting-edge performance with unparalleled customer satisfaction, and to lead sustainable innovation that meets evolving global regulations and customer expectations.”
In recognition of its milestone, Tohatsu has unveiled a special commemorative logo which will appear on all 2026 model year outboard product. The design integrates the iconic silhouette of an outboard engine with a dynamic boat motif, seamlessly incorporating the “70th” designation into the engine-boat composition. “The forward motion symbolises the velocity and momentum that have defined Tohatsu’s history and will continue to drive growth in brand strength, presence, sales, and market share in the years ahead,” notes Hyuga. “This emblem represents both a rich legacy and a continued commitment to progress and innovation.”
