Volvo Penta has announced details of a new Aquamatic DPI propulsion package. The Volvo Penta D6 480 DPI offers more horsepower, more installation options and a more integrated boating experience than ever before. This latest development expands the world-leading, high-performance Volvo Penta Aquamatic DPI range, delivering even greater performance and versatility in both the marine commercial and leisure boating markets. Designed for single, twin, triple or quadruple installations, the new D6 480 DPI provides a powerful and scalable propulsion package, making it ideal for a broad range of boats and applications. For both repowering and new boats, the package unlocks new possibilities for builders, dealers and boaters alike.
“With the D6 480 DPI, we’re further strengthening our Aquamatic DPI range by offering a complete, integrated package that delivers outstanding comfort, performance and onboard flexibility – perfect for modern boat owners and commercial marine operators looking for an upgrade, in every sense of the word,” says Ludvig Börjesson, Product Planner at Volvo Penta. Volvo Penta’s new D6 480 DPI package features the company’s fully integrated helm-to-propeller system.
Rapid acceleration, unique marine torque and high responsiveness make the new package ideal for applications that require speed on the water, which in turn can contribute to improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions. In addition, Volvo Penta Duoprop technology provides outstanding grip, enabling the ability to make tight turns at speed, a crucial feature in many high-speed applications. For marine commercial professionals, these high levels of precision, control and manoeuvrability contribute to easier operation, allowing the operator to apply more focus to the task at hand.

The new Aquamatic package features a sterndrive configuration, providing an open transom with extra space at the aft. This enables closer proximity to the water, unobstructed views, more opportunities to enhance onboard comfort and more versatility in terms of how deck space can be used. All these benefits have a positive impact for both leisure boaters and marine commercial users. With a hydraulic clutch for silent, smooth shifting, low-speed functionality, and electronic steering for precision handling, the Aquamatic DPI propulsion package offers exceptional manoeuvrability and peace of mind. A lower centre of gravity also increases comfort and safety in rough seas.
Built for high-performance top speeds, rapid acceleration and superior control, this new D6 480 DPI marine propulsion package delivers more power in combination with increased efficiency and extended cruising range. Volvo Penta’s innovative Duoprop technology and unique marine torque provide the ability to accelerate rapidly with precision and control – even when executing tight turns.
Designed to deliver more time on the water, the Volvo Penta Aquamatic DPI package is built for reliability and durability, with long service intervals and worldwide parts and service availability. The package also includes a warranty of up to 3 years, depending on the application or market. Martin Jufors, VP of Marine Sales, concludes, “Performance and handling. Onboard comfort and convenience. Increased fuel efficiency. Longer intervals between servicing. Extended cruising range. Ease of use across the entire lifecycle. Freedom and flexibility in terms of designing and using the stern of the boat. From any perspective — marine commercial operator, leisure boater or boat builder — this new Aquamatic DPI package offers exciting possibilities that add value to the experience on the water.”
