Yamaha Motor New Zealand recently brought together staff, partners and volunteers for a rewarding Yamaha Day on Rotoroa Island, embracing this year’s theme of “Own the Moment, Take Action” by combining teamwork, environmental stewardship and community spirit in one of the Hauraki Gulf’s most significant conservation sanctuaries.
Travelling to the island aboard Auckland Sea Shuttles and a variety of Yamaha powered craft, participants exchanged their usual workplaces for walking boots and gloves, spending the day assisting with a range of conservation activities that help preserve the island’s unique natural environment.
Working alongside the Rotoroa Island Trust team, Yamaha volunteers tackled practical restoration projects, including clearing vegetation, maintaining walking tracks and undertaking pest plant control. The hands-on work contributes to the ongoing protection of native flora and fauna while helping ensure the island remains a thriving sanctuary for future generations to enjoy.
The day also provided an opportunity for the Yamaha team to learn more about Rotoroa Island’s remarkable transformation. Once known for its historic role as a rehabilitation centre, the island has become one of New Zealand’s leading conservation success stories, with extensive habitat restoration and the successful reintroduction of several native wildlife species.
Yamaha Motor New Zealand Senior Manager Alan Petrie said the annual Yamaha Day is about giving back to the community while strengthening relationships within the business.
“Yamaha Day gives our team the opportunity to step away from the office, work together in a completely different environment and contribute to projects that make a genuine difference. Rotoroa Island is an incredible place, and we’re proud to support the important conservation work being undertaken here.”
The event highlighted Yamaha’s commitment to supporting local communities and protecting New Zealand’s natural environment. Beyond the physical work completed throughout the day, the experience reinforced the value of teamwork, sustainability and corporate responsibility.
Yamaha Day is celebrated each year on 1 July, marking the founding of Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. in 1955. This year, Yamaha proudly celebrated its 71st birthday, recognising more than seven decades of innovation, performance and the spirit of challenge that has shaped the company into a global leader across marine, motorcycle and power products. Yamaha Day is an opportunity for employees, dealers and partners around the world to reflect on the brand’s heritage while giving back to their local communities through meaningful initiatives such as the Rotoroa Island conservation project.
