100MPH ELECTRIC BOAT SPEED RECORD ATTEMPT

Canadian company hopes to shatter its previous record at the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout

Vision Marine Technologies will be attempting to break its own production electric boat speed record at the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout later this month, and the Canadian company has its eye set on the 100 mile per hour speed mark.

During last year’s Shootout, Vision Marine co-founder Patrick Bobby piloted the company’s all-electric Bruce 22 powered by its E-Motion 180E electric outboard and powertrain system to a speed of 49mph, shattering its previous record of 31mph set at the 2019 Shootout, but using a third-party motor, according to the Lake Expo website.

During the Shootout high-performance boaters from around the world will descend on the US state of Missouri to show off their hardware and compete for bragging rights of top speeds achieved while raising money for local charities.

Vision will be attempting this monumental achievement in a 32ft Hellkat Super Sport Widebody Catamaran, a special project between Vision Marine and Hellkat Powerboats. Twin E-Motion 180E outboards will power the craft.

The milestone speed achievement would be one more hurdle cleared in electric boating’s drive to replicate the boating experience under internal combustion power.
